Geeta Dayal

Geeta Dayal is a noted journalist and critic, specializing in music, art, film and technology. She has contributed to many major publications over the past twenty years, including The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired, Rolling Stone, Slate, The Boston Globe, Sight & Sound, Film Comment, New York, The Wire, Artforum, Bookforum, Frieze, Billboard, 4Columns, Spin, The Village Voice, and NPR.

She is the author of the critically acclaimed book Another Green World, published by Bloomsbury. A new book, a collection of her essays on music, is scheduled to be published next year. She has also contributed to anthologies published by Oxford University Press, MIT Press, Simon & Schuster, Zer0, Da Capo, and others.

She has spoken at many major museums and festivals worldwide, including The Whitney Museum of Art, Hammer Museum, Frieze Art Fair, Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum for Contemporary Art, and the CTM Festival. She is a frequent commentator on radio, appearing on shows for NPR, the BBC, and the CBC.

She has taught courses at several universities, including UC Berkeley, and has given lectures at numerous schools, including Brown, Columbia, M.I.T., Carnegie-Mellon, Pomona, Boston College, Berklee, Northeastern, UC Santa Cruz, CalArts, CCA, Worcester Polytechnic, University of Iowa, and NYU.

In addition to her work as a critic, she curates and organizes festivals and concerts. Most recently, she created the Music for India benefit concert series, featuring Terry Riley and many other prominent composers and musicians, which raised nearly $20,000 for urgent COVID medical relief in India.

She holds two undergraduate degrees from M.I.T. and a master’s degree from Columbia Journalism School.
